Extensions (namespaces)

RSS has a defined mechanism that allows it to be extended, for new purposes and uses. This basically allows organizations to define a set of new fields that can be used in RSS feeds. These 'groups of new fields' are defined as a namespace and can be used for an extension of RSS. For the sake of simplicity, we will simply call these sets of newly defined fields 'Extensions'. There are several well know RSS extensions in use and although FeedForAll supports the use of any and all extensions, there is an enhanced level of support for the most common extensions (iTunes, Dublin Core, Content, and Syndication).

To add an extension to your feed, simply make the 'Feed' tab current and then click on the 'Extensions' tab. You will see a list of the extensions that your copy of FeedForAll already know about. You can add a new extension to the list by clicking the 'Add New Extension to List' button. But, if the extension your are interested in using is already in the list, you simply need to check the box next to it.

Whenever you open a new feed that has an extension that FeedForAll doesn't know about, it will automatically add the new extension's definition to its list. In this way FeedForAll can actually 'learn' about new extensions without you even needing to manually define them.

After adding an extension to your feed, you will see a new tab under the Extensions tab for that new extension. For example, if you choose to add the iTunes extension to your feed, you will see a new tab labeled 'iTunes' under the Extensions tab for the Feed, and for each Item in the feed.
