Step-by-Step Instructions on Publishing a Podcast
Publishing a Podcast on Your
Web Site or to iTunes® Music Store
Creating a Podcast to publish on your web site
or on iTunes® Music Store is as simple as
1,2,3. Follow this step-by-step tutorial with
clear and precise guidelines. Remember that in
addition to audio, there are 2 elements for publishing
a Podcast on iTunes Music Store: iTunes specified
artwork and an RSS Feed including iTunes Specific
Tags.
- Start a new RSS feed by clicking on the New
Feed button on the toolbar.
- In the Title dialog box enter a title
for the new feed/Podcast.
- In the Description dialog box enter
a collective description of all the audio files
contained in the Podcast.
- In the Link dialog box enter the URL
of the website or webpage you want associated
with the Podcast.
- Select the Optional Tab while in the
Feed Section.
- Click on the Language list box and
select the language for your feed.
- In the Copyright dialog box enter the
copyright information for the current feed.
- Select the Extensions Tab while in
the Feed Section.

- Click on the plus symbol below XML
Namespace dialog box. A dialog box will
pop up with a list and two entry fields.

- From the list select the iTunes namespace.
After selecting confirm that in the Namespace
entry area is: itunes, and in the DTD
URL entry area is: http//www.itunes.com/dtds/podcast-1.0.dtd.
Click Accept.
- Select the iTunes® tab while in
the Feeds/Extensions Section.
In this section we fill in information for iTunes
specific tags that apply to your feed. Details
for the iTunes specific tags can be found here.
Remember - just enter the information FeedForAll
Mac will do the XML work for you.
- In the Subtitle dialog box enter a
subtitle for the Description column in iTunes.
- In the Summary dialog box enter a long
description of your podcast. It will appear
next to your Podcast Cover Art when a user selects
your Podcast.
- Click on the plus symbol below the
Category list box. A dialog box will
pop up with two columns; main categories on
the left and subcategories on the right. Choose
your category by highlighting on the left. When
applicable select the subcategory for the main
category you have chosen. Not all categories
have subcategories. More than one category may
be chosen.

- In the Author dialog box enter the
name(s) to be displayed in the Artist column
in iTunes.
- In the Owner Name dialog box enter
the name of the person to be contacted regarding
information related to this specific Podcast.
- In the Owner Email dialog box enter
the e-mail address of the owner for communication
only regarding this Podcast.
- In the Image dialog box enter the full
URL for the artwork related to this Podcast.
- Make a selection from the Explicit
list. For additional details click here.
- Select the Items Tab.
- In the Title dialog box enter a title
for this specific Podcast or audio file.
- In the Description dialog box enter
a description of what the audio file contains.
- In the Link dialog box enter the URL
of the website or webpage you want associated
with this audio file.
- Select the Optional Tab while in the
Items Section.
- Click the disclosure button next to the GUID
field and the dialog box will expand.
- Enter a unique URL for the item that can ideally
be opened to display the full contents for the
item.
- Click the disclosure button next to the Enclosure
field and the dialog box will expand.
- In the URL dialog box enter the URL
of an MP3 or audio file containing the audio
content.
- In the Length dialog box enter the
file size of the audio file in bytes.
- In the Type dialog box enter audio
and the format of the audio file. In the table
below are the valid perimeters for this dialog
box

- Select the Extensions Tab while in
the Items Section.
- In the Subitle dialog box enter a title
for this specific item.
- In the Description dialog box enter
a description of the item.
- In the Duration dialog box enter the
length in time of enclosed audio/video file.
- In the Author dialog box enter the
name(s) to be displayed in the Artist column
in iTunes.
- Make a selection from the Explicit

- Return to the Main Page (Feed Tab).
- Click on the Save Feed Button on the
toolbar and save your new feed.
- Click on the Upload Button to upload
your new RSS feed to your website.
- Test your feed through the iTunes Music Store.

- Submit your Podcast to iTunes®
with a simple click and follow the instructions
in the iTunes® Music Store.

- Open iTunes®
to the iTunes Music Store.
- Locate and click on Podcast "Inside
the Music Store".
- Click Submit a Podcast.
- Follow the instructions provided by the
iTunes® Music Store.
