I am doing example3 + multi rss feed.
only the problem that i have been having is one of the feed is in UTF-8, and others are in Shift-JIS. Is there a way to display both of them at the same time?

thanks

There is a new version, 2.19, that should be availble in the next couple of days that tries to convert feeds that aren't in UTF-8 to UTF-8. When that is available I would try that.

hi jim,

That sounds very cool. I wonder if the new version coverts the feeds into all in shift-jis. I have no idea why this is the way, but it is just natural for japanese web sites are displayed in shiftjis all the time.

thanks very much for super quick support and great script.

If the right modules are install it should convert shift-jis into UTF-8. If you have a shift-jis feed I can try and see what happens.

I was able to make the single feed work on my server, but I was unsucessful with using multiple sources on one page.
In example 4, believe, it says to create a template that will rest in the "guts" of a table. Would I just insert the provided code as html into that document inside a table? Do I need multiple inserts of this to allow for multiple feeds to return?

You will need one include for each feed you want to include.

Hi Jim,

On the second your wrote and said you were going to email me

Quote:
I will email you the specs on a nice BWM 3 series....

Actually you can purchase this script and several others, including a caching module so the remote XML file won't be fetched very time. This can be big speed up.

I didn't see your email, but I get a lot of spam and could have deleted. Could you resend? scott [at] best-e-book.com

Also what is the latest version of rss2html?

Thanks again for an awesome script

Scott

The most recent version is 2.23, 2.22 is the same with a slight change in comments.

Hello,

Maybe I just got off the dummy bus but in Example 3 We have the code:

~~~BeginItemsRecord~~~
<TR>
<TD>
~~~ItemPubShortDate~~~ ~~~ItemPubShortTime~~~
</TD>
</TR>
<TR>
<TD>
<A href="~~~ItemLink~~~">~~~ItemTitle~~~</A>
</TD>
</TR>
<TR>
<TD>
~~~ItemDescription~~~
<BR>
<BR>
</TD>
</TR>
~~~EndItemsRecord~~~

Is there some examples and such to know how to write down things such as

~~~BeginItemsRecord~~~
I mean does it have to be encoded in something or is it just plain text? The only thing I recognize is the:
<A href="~~~ItemLink~~~">~~~ItemTitle~~~</A>
In other words, I don't know what values to substitute these ~~~xxxx~~~ paramaters with...
Sorry for being a bit slow on this.
The documentation that comes in the rss2html.zip file explains what all of these are. They are also documented here, http://www.feedforall.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=249 .
Jim,
this is the code i have on http://www.beatphonik.com/test/newsevents.htm
<TABLE>
<!--#INCLUDE VIRTUAL="rss2html.php?TEMPLATE=(feed-template.html)&XMLFILE=(http://blog.myspace.com/blog/rss.cfm?friendID=69272531)&MAXITEMS=(5)" -->
<!--#INCLUDE VIRTUAL="rss2html.php?TEMPLATE=(feed-template.html)&XMLFILE=(http://blog.myspace.com/blog/rss.cfm?friendID=30846676)&MAXITEMS=(3)" -->
<!--#INCLUDE VIRTUAL="rss2html.php?TEMPLATE=(feed-template.html)&XMLFILE=(http://blog.myspace.com/blog/rss.cfm?friendID=82094084)&MAXITEMS=(4)" -->
</TABLE>
I have a basic webserver account, it does not have PHP modules or CGI support. But I am however to run the script on my server.
Do i need to upgrade my account?
Well those () will make it not work right. You need to have PHP to make it work.
Hey Jim,
I'm hoping you'll get to read this, since I don't see any recent posts here, I've got the script downloaded and I've tried the configurations you suggested on page 1 of this thread. I guess I'm making things a little complicated for myself since I'm not using the default template that comes with rss2html.php. I have other templates that I like because of layout and color and I plan on writing my own content as well. All of these templates have a styles.css file, so I'm wondering if this causes some kind of conflict with the way this script works, am I wrong in that assumption?
So after trying all those configurations I have not been able to see feeds show up at all. Here's how I have it all configured now:
in the rss2html.php file:
(here I changed the $XMLfilename to $XMLFiles)
$XMLFiles[] = "http://prweb.com/xml/finance.xml";
srand ((double) microtime( )*1000000);
$random = rand(1,count($XMLFiles));
$XMLfilename = $XMLFiles[$random];
in the index.shtml file:
(this is somewhere in the middle of the page)
<td>
<?php
$path[] = "http://www.weewaw.com/RSS/rss2html.php?XMLFILE=http://prweb.com/xml/finance.xml&TEMPLATE=tables.html";
srand ((double) microtime( )*1000000);
$random = rand(1,count($path))-1;
include($path[$random]);
?>
</td>
I created the tables.html file which is called in the index.shtml file following the directions in your original post, so after trying that and following other suggestions as I worked my way down the thread I ended up with this mess above.
Anyways, I'd appreciate your help.
Chas.
It looks like you are using a .shtml (Apache Server Side Include enable file). PHP can't be process in .shtml files, you need to use a .php .
