I recently put that into a podcast, and FFA considers it to be erroneous.
It meets the description of an URL in the text from your help menu, though, and it passes the web-based validator I link to from http://ecn.ab.ca/~brewhaha/Sound/

It is only a temporary measure for me to use news URLs. I use a news server other than google, so I do not know when my article will reach that archives at google. So, in the meantime, I link to the news URL, which only works if my readers hav a news server other than google, which I recommend, anyway, because google is full of spam. However, google is somewhat valuable for retaining articles much longer: It is an archive, whereas most servers only retain articles for a few weeks, so I will change the URL when the article propagates to groups.google.

I think FFA should accept news URLs, even though they won't work for everyone.
