What is the Difference Between RSS and XML?

XML is a standard that defines how to structure a text document using tags, to store information in a organized way in that document.

RSS follows that XML standard, but goes further to define the names of specific tags (some required and some optional), and what kind of information should be stored in them.

So, RSS starts with the XML standard, and then further defines it into something more specific.
