?Help with rss2html.php Script

I've read the Documentation on the rss2html.php script usage and I'm still very confused. Can you please help!

I'm trying to do is to avoid getting that message that says that I have no style sheet attached. I"m less concerned about our own computer than I am about somebody in cyberspace viewing my rss feed and getting that message and the feed in script form.

I'm creating a podcast and I want others to view it in proper format, not the script.

So....I've downloaded both the rss2htm.php and the new -Pro version. I think the -Pro version is not for me, but am I wrong?

From your www.feedforall.com/more-php.htm page I see that I have four options and I don't know which way to go! Options 1, 2, and 3 seem viable, and 4 not for me. How would I choose?

Also, when I run the script from my own webserver, option 1, where do I put the link (http:///rss2html.php? etc.?????)? Why would anybody click on that link?

I'm just completely confused!

The place to start is with the copy of rss2html.php on your web server. http://www.yourwebserver.com/rss2html.php?buildURL . Enter in your feed's URL. For the first pass you can leave the template blank, the sample one will be used. Then press submit. This will show you the exact code you will need to use to have the output included into your webpage using two different methods.

Jim,

I put the file on my webserver. All my files go into a public folder, so it's there under www.mywebserver.com/public_html/rss2html.php.

Do I add "?buildURL" to the file name?

You said to enter my feed's URL but where do I enter my feed's URL? I take it you are referring to the .xml file? Currently my RSS/FEED button links to my .xml file, which I assume you want to stay that way.

I hope you don't mind all the questions; this is kind of Greek to me.

OK, so some of this is getting clearer.

Next question: This script calls for me to put the URL of the "Template". I take it this refers to the FeedForAll templates that we can download. Do I have to use one of those templates? I currently am using a default template, and it seems fine.

What do I do if I want to use a default template?

If you are using the default template, or a modified version of it you can leave that line blank. If you don't change the value, the default template will be used.

Still having problems.

Going with Option 2, uploading the rss2html.php to my webserver. I put the proper code in my web page, http://www.mydomain.com/rss2html.php?XMLFILE= and left the Template part blank, as you suggested since I am using my own template. When online I clicked on my "RSS/FEED" button, it returned "Unable to open template sample-template.html, exiting".

Then I tried Option 1, running my script from FeedForAll's public server. I used the Link Tool, and was told it was successful, and given the proper code which I copied and pasted into my html code. But when I clicked on the "Click on link to view results" I was shown your website, not my html or xml files.

To complicate matters, if I took that line of code and pasted it into my html, and went back to my website and clicked on the button, I was given the 404 error message, "Cannot find page.." etc.

OK, what next! Nothing is working (except for me, I'm working hard!.

If you are using your own template, and it is not named sample-template.html then you have to tell it the name of the template. Using http://www.yourserver.com/rss2html.php?buildURL makes all of this and testing easy.

Using my own template? I mentioned before I'm just using my webpage (built by Front Page), that I do not have a template, per se. You said to leave it blank and that hasn't worked as you can see from the error messages I"m getting.

I tried going to http://www.mywebserver.com/public_html/rss2html.php?buildURL before but it hyperlinks me to www.yourserver.com, which is a website selling server space. If I do a search for "buildURL" on that website, it gives me a download at the site Stylus Studios XML, which is a huge executable file. This is not an easy thing!

Can't you please just tell me what to do, provide me some tech support, help me to construct the correct code so that I can bypass this template thing? After all, this is FeedForAll code, isn't it?

The template is the key! rss2html.php uses the template to convert the feed to HTML.

Is anybody else having problems getting these scripts to work in a situation like mine, when I am not using FeedForAll's templates?

Tech support keeps saying just look here and do this and that and it's easy. If it's so easy, I wouldn't keep needing tech support, would I. Tech support is supposed to be there for people who do not find it so easy, who are stuck. If it were so easy, I wouldn't be needing tech support.

Very unhappy.

Not only that, but I paid for this software and I tried downloading the templates and it won't download with the password I was given, and tech support has not phoned or emailed me in 3 days to try to help me get these templates downloaded.

If you post your actual URLs we might be able to help more, since with out them we can't see the specific cause of your problems.

I am also a PHP newbie, and I am desperately trying to make one of these rss solutions to work for me. The only one that has so far, sort of, is rssfeedreader, but it uses the script on their server, which slows my pages down substantially.

Another solution is Antone Roundy's CaRP, but there is no support for the newbie, and I have trying to make it work for weeks. I am on the verge of giving up.

Now, I have used the buildURL tool, and it gives me this message when it's done:

Looks like you are getting close. You do, however, have a problem in your template. You have the ~~~EndItemsRecord~~~ directly after the ~~~BeginItemsRecord~~~. You need to enclose all the other ~~~Item...~~~ variables between the two. You need to move the ~~~EndItemsRecord~~~ to after the
