Hving read the "Guest" query on this topic from 3 October and followed the suggestions in the response, I am still receiving an error message "Invalid path or filename", when I am posting to a sub directory on my server, either as /RSS/ or RSS/.

I have noticed however that a blank file is sometimes created on my server when uploading in this way.

Any help or comments would be welcome. The programme is great and works extremely well and I have a work around which is to upload the file with another FTP programme, so all is not lost, it's just a shame that this functionality on your programme cannot be utilised.

Thanks in advance

Can you please post exactly what you are putting in the path and filename fields. That will be a good place to start, to track down the problem. If you are uncomfortable posting that stuff here, feel free to email us at:

Try connecting to the FTP server from a command prompt:

c:\> ftp myftpserver.com
User: myusername
Password: mypassword
Ftp> dir

Insert your info for myftpserver, myusername, and mypassword

when you get the directory listing, see if you see the RSS folder. Also, pay attention to capitialization. FTP servers are case sensitive.

Please post your results.

Thanks.

I'm not quite sure where you are going here. The subdirectory /RSS exists on my hosting server and the file "october_2004.xml" is sitting in that sub-directory and is accessible. As I said previously, that file was uploaded using another commercial ftp client, rather than FeedForAll, albeit that latter having created it.

Among other things, I am trying to verify the default folder you are put into, after connecting to your FTP server. Every FTP account has a default folder associatted with it. When you log into the FTP server, you are put into that folder. The RSS folder in question may not be under your FTP default folder, but may be under the folder your current FTP client program puts you in, after it connects.

Some FTP client programs also automatically handle capitalization issues. Doing things the 'old fashioned way' may help that sort of thing be more noticeable.

Thanks for your patience. I have ftp'd as suggested and the first line of the response is:
"150 Opening ASCII mode data connection for /bin/ls."
then I get the whole list of folders, including RSS, listed. This is the same as I see on screen, when I log in using my commercial FTP program.
The list of folders is large, approx 40+ so I haven't listed them here.

Does this help?

In your commercial FTP program, does it show a full tree of the remote computer's folders? For example, something like /home/usr/ftp/.....
If so, what is the full path to the RSS folder? Try using that in FeedForAll's FTP path field.

Sorry this is dragging on. We have added an FTP log to the next release, which includes the default folder when connected. It will be a big help in trying to figure out these types of problems in the future.

If you get a chance, download the FeedForAll Beta 2 release that is now available. It will log the FTP session and give us some clues as to where your problem lies.

Thanks

This would be helpful. Can you supply a URL to the download file as all I can find on your site is v1.9 on the downloads?

OK, it looks like when you log in, you are put into the root folder of that system. In you commercial FTP program, what is the full path to the RSS folder, from the top-most folder you can change into? I am guessing your commercial FTP program is automatically changing you into a lower folder.

Rather like in your log files, when I log on via my commercial FTP program, what I see is "/" and then a whole list of sub folders, any of which I can select, with RSS being one of them.

Selecting RSS then displays "/RSS" and a sub window displays all the files in that folder, which incidentally is showing the "test1410.xml" file just uploaded but with "0" bytes as size. You will recall that I mentioned this before.

It appears I am leading you in circles. If you are interested, I can give you a call so we can try to take care of this once and for all. If you are willing, just email your phone number to , along with your timezone and what hours you are available.

If not, we can try to continue poking at it here in the forum.
