RSS feeds don't *need* to be indexed. However, if the sites that index RSS feeds are notified about your feed, they will add it to their index, which can help people find your feed.

Yep, RSS feeds do not need to be indexed. If RSS feed is added in your site then it helps in regular spider visits & people can find your feed easily.
